(Thunbergia alata) Also known as Clockvine. Great for hanging baskets, containers, privacy fences, gates, arbors or garden trellises. Very easy to start from seed, fast-growing, and quick to bloom and so very pretty. Grown as an annual in the North.
This vine brightly displays approx. 1 1/2 inch flowers in shades of yellow, orange and white. The simple blooms have 5 petals and some with black centers. The lush foliage and profuse blooming make this a rewarding plant to grow in any summer landscape.
Provide moist, well-drained soil in full sun with some afternoon shade during hot summers, 100 plus degrees. The Black Eyed Susan vine needs regular watering throughout the summer. Plant seedlings 3 inches away from supports. Netting or strings make good trellis material. Solid fencing or large posts will need trellis material for the vine to climb. Space plants 8 - 12 inches apart. Pinch the tips of young Black-Eyed Susan plants to encourage branching. If grown in a container, it can be wintered indoors in a bright, sunny window.

White, yellow, and golden-orange blossoms
Annual plants in northern climates
Temperature: 75 - 80F
Average Germ Time: 14 - 21 days
Depth: 1/4 inch
Sowing Rate: 3 seeds per plant
Moisture: Keep seeds moist until germination
Plant Spacing: 8 - 12 inches
My experience: the plant likes full sun but if your temps stay above 90ish during the Summer you might consider planting in part shade or plant it in a large container that can be moved to part shade during the hot summer months. It may not bloom as well in part shade but you can always move the container back to full sun after the hottest months have passed.
