Solidago canadensis, known as Canada goldenrod or Canadian goldenrod, is an herbaceous perennial plant of the family Asteraceae. It is known for medicinal teas and other different applications. Solidago means, "to make whole."
Like many wildflowers, goldenrod is extremely easy to grow from seed, which can be sown directly outdoors in fall or spring or started indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last frost date. If you plant the seeds in late fall or early winter, they will begin to germinate when the temperatures warm the following spring. Goldenrod attracts bees and butterflies.
It is said Goldenrod has been used to treat tuberculosis, diabetes, enlargement of the liver, gout, hemorrhoids, internal bleeding, asthma, inflammation, minor wound healing, fever, snake bites, sore throat, allergies and arthritis. In folk medicine, it is used as a mouth rinse to treat inflammation of the mouth and throat. But please do your own research, I do not advise the use of this herb medicinally, I am just showing the information I have found.
Sowing: Direct sow in late fall, pressing into the surface of the soil since this plant needs light to germinate. For spring planting, mix the seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 60 days before planting. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.
