(Monarda citriodora) (aka Beebalm, Horsemint) Used by Native Americans for medicinal and culinary purposes, the citrus-flavored leaves of lemon mint can be minced and added to fruit jellies. Edible Flowers: Add petals to salads, sprinkle over mild fish, use in fruit salads, or to garnish desserts and drinks. Flavor is minty and spicy. Leaves are used to flavor salads, cooked foods, and tea. Its beautiful purple bracts, held on 24-30" tall plants, are aromatic and colorful in the fall and attract bees.
Vigorous blooms add a wildflower look and spicy citrus scent to bouquets.
Towers of bright lavender 1 1/2-2" blooms on straight and thin, yet sturdy stems. An unusual and easy-to-use cut flower. The blooms and leaves are edible, though the leaves are intensely spicy. Attracts beneficial bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, the plant is nectar for them.

Direct sow or grow in large container, it does very well in large containers.

Sow seeds indoors just beneath surface of soil. Plant out in early spring just before last frost. Remove spent blossoms regularly to prolong blooming.
Can be invasive but regular pruning will keep it in check or grow it in a container.
