Purple Coneflower is a popular prairie wildflower that is easily identified by its gorgeously dark, cone-shaped flower with purple petals.
This is a drought resistant perennial flower that will attract birds and pollinators to your garden. It is a very hardy perennial flower here in the South. Each year the cluster comes back fuller and is so showy in the garden. It stands tall and seems to say, Hello Spring I am here until the first frost hits. It will die back in the winter but emerges in the spring with such beauty and force. It rarely needs watering, it is very drought resistant. It is one of those wonderful plants in your garden that rather be left alone. Of course cutting the dried out heads in winter and collect seeds is a must, or leave it for the birds to forge on.
