Russian Tarragon Seeds, (Artemisia dracunculus) Non-GMO, Open Pollinated
25 seeds per package
Russian Tarragon is a delicate herb highly prized for its aromatic and culinary properties. A native of Europe, it is used as a compliment to many classic continental dishes as it can be used raw or cooked. Flavor is said to improve as the plant matures. Plant tarragon seeds in a warm and sunny spot.
Tarragon grows best in medium moisture, well-draining soils in full sun. Artemisia dracunculoide, also known as Russian tarragon, is most often used in dishes that feature tomatoes, mushrooms, and light proteins. It can also be used as an ingredient in herbal vinegars or salad dressings. Leaves can be collected at any point in the growing season and used either fresh or dried. But they are best used fresh for a stronger flavor.
A shrub-like herb characterized by its many light green lance-shaped leaves. It grows up to 30 inches tall and will bloom tiny greenish-white flowers along its narrow panicles during the summer. It is a robust plant, but it is susceptible to root rot if over watered.
Plant seed directly into prepared pots indoors a couple of weeks before the last frost date. Seedlings should sprout within a week or two. Once the young plants reach a few inches and the last frost date has passed, they can be transplanted outdoors to freshly tilled soil.
Or, sow directly in well-drained soil in full sun after danger of frost is past. Thin or transplant plants to 18 inches apart when they are 3 inches tall and keep well weeded. Pick leaves as needed.
Planting Depth – surface sow, lightly press into soil
Full Sun
Water lightly until seedling appears
Thin plants to approx. 24” apart
Height approx. 30”
Maybe a perennial in zones 4 and up
