Serrano Hot Pepper Seeds
Open Pollinated, Non-GMO,
20 seeds per package
Serrano Pepper plants will give you dozens of medium-thin walled fruits per plant. Pick them early when the peppers are green and more mild or wait until they are mature and "red hot" estimated 3,500 Scoville heat units. They will turn orange-red at maturity but can be eaten when they are green. This hot pepper is a favorite in hot salsas, sauces, and Mexican dishes.
The flavorful serrano pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Serrano') is a cultivar of the Capsicum annuum species, which also includes jalapeños, cayenne peppers, bell peppers, and more. Serranoes have a decent kick but are not ridiculously spicy.
Sow seed in containers, raised beds or in ground. Full sun is needed for these peppers.
You can sow 8 weeks before last Spring frost. Sow ½” deep in potting soil mix, if using a heat mat it will need to be around 75-80 degrees, 12 to16 hours a day to get them to germinate. The soil needs to be lightly moist until germination. When the last frost has passed you can plant your seedlings outside, but be sure to allow them to go through a hardening off time before you place them directly in the ground or outside in containers. The seedlings need to adjust to full temps and wind.
Or you can direct sow the seeds after last frost has passed. They do well in good draining soil, full sun and keep the soil lightly moist until germination. As you learn how much water your plant needs as it grows, just test the soil with your finger. If it is dry about an inch down then water the plant. Watering most plants works best to water at ground level instead of overhead watering so the foliage stays dry.
