Sunflower Pro-Cut Red Lemon Bicolor Seeds, Annual

20 seeds per package

Beautiful bicolor flower bloom opens lemon yellow with deep velvety red surrounding the almost black central disc. The red color diffuses to a muted brick red as the flower matures. ProCut Red Lemon Bicolor makes an excellent cut flower, with strong, approximately 4’-6’ tall stems. Flowers are pollen-free.

Note: Light-colored petals are more susceptible to damage by insect feeding. To avoid insect damage, I encourage harvesting blooms just as they begin to open and storing until they open to the desired appearance if they will be grown for cut flower purposes. Otherwise, let them bloom in your garden and enjoy!

Sowing: Direct seed (recommended) - After last frost, sow 1/2" deep. Transplant -Sow into 72 to 50-cell flats 2-3 weeks prior to planting out. Plants dislike root disturbance, but sowing indoors and then transplanting the first crop outdoors can be a successful way to get first-early sunflowers. Do not pinch plants. Pinched single-stem sunflowers will produce low-quality blooms or no blooms at all. Succession-sow every 1-2 weeks and/or plant multiple varieties with varied days to maturity for continuous harvest from Summer to Fall.

 Annual

Full Sun

Plant height: Varies 4’ to 6’

Plant spacing: 4-6"

Flower Head in full bloom is approximately 5-7” across

Plant depth, ½”, keep soil slightly moist until germination.

Days to germination: approx. 7-14 days at 70-75°F (21-24°C)

Days to Maturity, approx. 60 to 65

Harvest: Flowers can be harvested tight, when color first shows, or when almost completely open, depending on your market and preferred use. Dried - Flowers are completely open.

Soil: Light, well-drained soil. Excessive nitrogen may cause plants to grow too vigorously with abnormal flower shapes.

Flower size and stem diameter are controlled by plant spacing, temperature, soil type, and day length. For early and late season production, select varieties that are day-length neutral or are noted as suitable for flowering under short days.

Uses:  Excellent cut flower or for gardens. These are stunning sunflowers, easy to grow, and at the right height to enjoy in the garden or in cut flower arrangements, I totally love growing these beauties all around my garden and I plant seeds about every two weeks so I can keep enjoying them during the growing season.
