Pro-Cut Orange Sunflower Seeds (Helianthus annuus)

Minimum 25 seeds per package.

Beautiful bright orange bloom with dark center. Combines well with soft or vivid colors.

Single-stem plants have tall, strong stems approximately 4–6’ tall.

SOWING: Direct seed (recommended) - After last frost, sow 1/2" deep. Transplant -Sow into 72 to 50-cell flats 2-3 weeks prior to planting out. Plants dislike root disturbance, but sowing indoors and then transplanting the first crop outdoors can be a successful way to get first-early sunflowers. Do not pinch plants. Pinched single-stem sunflowers will produce low-quality blooms or no blooms at all. Succession-sow every 1-2 weeks and/or plant multiple varieties with varied days to maturity for continuous harvest.

Annual, Hybrid

Light: Full Sun

Plant Spacing: 4-6"

Bloom size approx. 4” to 6”

Height approx. 60” to 72” tall

Planting depth ¼”

Keep soil lightly moist until germination

Germination approx.  5 to 14 days (75 degrees plus)

Approx. 50 – 60 days to harvest

I recommend direct sowing in garden beds, along fence line, just off the patio area that gets full sun. Depending on your weather sunflowers do like to be watered. In Texas I water them every day and when the heat gets to 100, I water them twice a day. If you notice the leaves starting to turn yellow change your watering schedule to less.

HARVEST: Flowers can be harvested tight, when color first shows, or when almost completely open, depending on your market and preferred use. Dried - Flowers are completely open.

Soil Requirements: Light, well-drained soil. Excessive nitrogen may cause plants to grow too vigorously with abnormal flower shapes.

Note:  Flower size and stem diameter are controlled by plant spacing, temperature, soil type, and day length. For early and late season production, select varieties that are day-length neutral or are noted as suitable for flowering under short days.

Uses:  Excellent cut flower. These are stunning sunflowers, easy to grow, and at the right height to enjoy in the garden or in cut flower arrangements. The bloom is called orange but to me they favor yellow more, like a warm yellow.
